Destiny & the Fateful Final Chapter of Sher Shah

Fate has a way of striking when you least expect it — sometimes to lift you from the ashes, other times to snuff you out in a blaze. This is the final chapter of a man who rose from near nothingness to rule an empire... only to be undone by one cruel twist. His greatest ambition lay just within reach. But destiny had other plans. One cannonball. One explosion. And a lifetime of brilliance left that one duty — the most important of all — heartbreakingly unfulfilled.

Dust and smoke billowed as the cannon ball blasted into the rampart. But it did little real damage. Medieval artillery was more bark than bite. And the slow progress it made against the robust bastions surprised no one. Least of all the seasoned general who, although eyeing the lofty Kalinjar fortress with lusty yet calm imperialism, was slowly losing patience from within.

For, despite being blessed with astronomical capability and having materialized most of it, the ageing Sher Shah Sur knew his time would soon be up. And he better reinforce the empire to leave some vantage to his weak and wobbling sons. Located strategically at the crossroads of military and trade routes between the Gangetic plain and central India, the Kalinjar fort was the one bulwark blocking his southward juggernaut. The way it had thwarted many a mighty Delhi ruler before. Taking the fort was not an option, but a necessity.

Alas, destiny had other plans. They were brutal. And they hit without warning!

Ricocheting from the fort walls, the cannon ball crashed into the ammunition depot right next to where the mounted general was marshalling his forces from. For once, his horse sense, built over a lifetime of battle and intrigue, deserted him. Hell, even his horse did not see this coming!

This time, the explosion was loud. And big. For it tossed up in flames the life and times of a fascinating historical character. One who had clawed his way to the top from near bottom with a cunning blend of force and finesse. Fate has seldom awarded a mortal with such dramatic reversals of fortune . . .

Like the cannon ball that was meant for the fort but ended up targeting him.
